What's new

Coolant

This question is a bit :ghey: but I have no pride so I don't care :p

Since the car dumped all it's coolant when the turbo hose split, I simply refilled it with neat water (i.e. no coolant) to get it running again. Now I need to get it topped up properly.

Question the first - How can I drain all the water out of the rad?

Question the second - what ratio of water/coolant should I put back in?

Question the third - what coolant do I buy? Any old stuff or is there something special I need to get?

There should be a drain plug on the bottom of the radiator.
I just removed the lower radiator hose and let the coolant flush all over my arm and into a bucket :)

water/coolant ratio should be on your coolant package. Often it is 50/50. But it should say on the package.

I bought coolant from the local gas station.

Don't forget to undo the air pressure relief bolt when filling up

1. On the bottom of the rad, right side. There's a plastic crosshead plug which can be removed through a hole in the undertray.

2. 50/50

3. Down to you. I just got some Halfrauds stuff.

Don't forget to undo the air relief bolt when filling. This get the air lock out of the system. Basically fill till the rad is full, remove the relief bolt and fill again till it starts pissing out of the hole. Replace the bolt and top up again :)

:nono: You can't just say things like that Yak... how the fudge do I know what one of them is?! :p (is it a little pale blue twisty thing I've seen near the rad?)

Assuming it is 50/50 ratio, how much coolant would I need to buy in litres? 2 Litres?

it doesn't matter about mixing coolant,... it's mixing different screenwashes...

the de-icer screenwash and normal stuff, when mixed corrodes the pipe work!!!! extremely quickly!

mixing the screen wash will corrode pipe work...
