JDM factory HID headlamps?

Hi all,

I've got this pair of headlamps that came off a JDM V-spec (last version I believe). The lights are white but not exactly ultra bright though I was told they are HIDs. It didn't come with anything resembling ballasts though. Are they in fact HIDs or just bright/white Xenons?

Those on my NZ-spec now are yellow Xenon...

Thanks a bunch :)

The back of the headlight units should look like this if they are true OEM HIDS

There is a vast difference between halogen and HIDs in the S15 units.

Thanks Nicely for the quick reply :)

shucks mine's not HIDs then.. and I don't have that box attached below like yours.. that must be the ballast..

So which version of the Spec R came with HIDs from the factory? I'm pretty sure my spare pair here came off a 2002 V-spec..

I think HID was a factory option for all version.

Not sure of it was a part of a package.
You probobly mean the V-package. V-spec is Skyline stuff :)

The easiest tell is the ballast mounted on the headlight as shown in the pic.

Edit:
found some info.
If you have lights from a V-package S15. You should have HID.

2002. 1 : The V-package is introduced. The V-package models are based on the Spec-R/Spec-S featuring exclusive front seats, 1DIN type MD/CD player, privacy glass, and High Intensity (H.I.D.) Xenon headlights.

oh yes I meant V-package

It's this GTR 'memorial' book I've been reading this couple of days.. trying to see if that M-spec "silica breeze" colour would look good on my '15.

Looks like then the HIDs were not given together with this pair of headlamps then.

RH head light = 26010-85F26
LH head light = 26060-85F26

This is the standard version and not the HID one.

i've got the jdm headlights.

they're not the 6,000k temp. they're about 5,200k.

the ballasts are located underneath. to the bottom right of your pic.

5200k are closest to natural sunlight, and will be clearer than 6000k. 4700k are ideal. I'm running 6000k in the S15 and ran 4700k in my S14 and they were better (the reflector style units helped too).

Just got some 4700k hi/lows for the Hilux

I was told that 6000k is the closest to sunlight????

Also in NZ to use HID to normal factory housing, it illegal because normal housing cannot scatter light ( i think what he meant was the angle or someting)

Are HID and normal housing different?
