Well i know im going to hear the "I told you so" stuff but i feel like a rant a bit..

My 15 went into Nissan last Friday, Due to pick it up the next morning after they had done the 48k service.. Didnt hear from them on friday so called Sat to get the following..

"Iv just had to correct the mechanic that its not an s14" .. Turns out my rear Nearside wheel bearing's shot, they have classed the car as dangerous until repair but cant seem to manage to order the correct part......

Brakes are all shot.. 90% wear on rear, 75% on front, they have said they can fix the indicators and my wipers need replaced.. they haven't told me the bill so far but said the wheel bearing will be around ?150 without labor.

I called sun, mon and today and they still have no idea when it'll be done.. like absolutely no idea when it'll be ready.. Everyone i spoke to had no idea what i was talking about so i have to keep talking to the same person or i spend 30minutes describing "Its the silver car with the big spoiler"

I miss my kei.. they said they can lend me a Micra 1.2 but i asked for a 350z but she didnt think she could lend one lol..

ugh......... oh well, back to my virtual s15 on Forza2 :annoyed:

you should read the forum more mint.....

firstly it would help if u post in the right section if this is to do with your car u should post in ur members section...

also nissan main dealers will always or just about know nothing about the S15 and are crap at dealing with things on it and it will cost u so much for doing so little...

iam sure there are more better garage around your area which deal with modded import car or performance car..?

Either way, a lesson learnt is a lesson never forgotten. So just keep your head up Mint and I'm sure it will work out in the end.

Just an idea but I would kick off at them saying you are not happy with the service you have recieved and get them to cease any work and to return the car back to a road-going state without carrying out any of the work. Then find somewhere more specialist and go there.

i do agree, main dealer is a bad idea, lack of knowledge and SOOOO expensive!!!!! did i put enough O's in that??
I went to my Nissan main dealer when i first got my car to find if they could get me a wheel arch liner, took them about 20 mins to actually find out what a S15 was......seriously!! they could get the part but it would of taken i think 4 years to be shipped over and cost me ?32,000.00.
I left immediately and never returned since :rotfl:

Well you'd be surprised by the serious LACK of garages around here i would feel happy with leaving my car with to be honest, in ways of Performance garages... i dosnt happen.

I can understand its expensive, i knew it would be but as far as im concerned i put it to Nissan BECAUSE i thought it would be done correctly, If anything goes wrong.. they have to fix it sort of thing. - So on that note i did read the forums but its a bit different up here you cant just hop over to a Jap specialist to get it sorted out sort of thing, If i wanted to do that id have to go down south somewhere. Not really an option.

Its cool.. the receptionist knows what type of car it is.... It was just a rant really.

Go to Perfectrun to get the bearings. Had mine delievered within 4 days and I fitted them myself:

43210-AA100- BEARING-REAR AXLE,INNER

I then took the hubs and old bearings to a nearby garage who took off the old bearings and pressed on the new ones.

No way would I have trusted that to Nissan.

As for brakes, is it disks and pads?

Where do you live Mint? Somewhere really North? These performance garages we are talkin about are sometimes hard to find; tucked away on a little industrial estate or even at the bottom of someone's garden.

Would anyone trust Middlehurst Nissan for any work? I believe they are pretty familiar with Skyline's because they were the importers for UK edition Skylines. I know a lot of people look out for service history from Middlehurst when searching for the rare UK editions. I know they might still have no idea when it comes to S15's but thought it would be a start. They are only the other side of the M62 from me as well :D

you'd be suprised about middlehurst actually.... they do infact have some very clever guys down their.

when i rang about brake parts,.... and he asked "what car are they for?", he knew exactly what i was doing and why. i believe that middlehurst are just the elite of nissan's staff..... the rest are just wank! lol

To me it sounds like they are trying to make money out of you. I will NEVER get a dealership to change wipers. EVER. If you can't change your wiper blades, so shouldn't own a car (same as changing a wheel).
If your barke pads are at 90% and 75%, they are fine. They are just very close to being used. I have heard heaps of mechanics use this line (and it ****s me greatly) you think that because you only have 10% left they need to be changed. I have been told this. Inspected the pads myself and found that they are only at about 50%. You probably still have months of driving on them. This is also quite an easy job for someone with minor mechanical knowledge.
I am also dubious about them not letting you drive the car for the wheel bearing. It's you car. Did it sound alright when you took it in? Was the car swerving all over the place when you drove it there? If not the chances is that is will be fine to take to another mechanic.
As for the indicators, If they don't know what an S15, they probably don't even know where to start looking for a wiring loom.
This dealer sounds like they know nothing and they are just trying to take you for a ride. They probably think because you have an import that you will accept paying through the nose for repairs.
As the rest of the guys said, find a mechanic you trust locally. They don't have to be especially an import mechanic. If they are a good mechanic, they should be able to sort it out for you at a reasonable cost. You may have to help them finds the parts, but I am sure you could find a few people to help you out.

I have a very good mechanic for the normal stuff, brakes, alignment and any service work and then I have my performance guy who does dyno tunning and upgrade mods when I can afford them. ;)

I know how you feel about missing your car, I had an incident with a gutter and have been without mine for 3 weeks.

The only good thing is the new set of Works VS TX rims sitting in my garage:D:D

Firstly, there ARE some good Nissan dealers out there, but they are VERY hard to find. Any dealer which has a Renault franchise tagged on should be avoided at all costs. The best ones are the ones which are SOLE Nissan franchises, as they don't need to fill their heads with loads of useless Renault model info and have a much smaller model range to concentrate on.

Second, listen to what people are saying about ordering parts from Japan. They will get here within a week and will cost less than half the UK price, regardless of whether its a S14 or S15 part.

Finally, post up in your local area section on SXOC and ask which garages they'd recommend in your area. The garage I use if I need to is full of old boys who have been working on cars for years and know how to fix stuff with their eyes shut. If they really get stuck, I have the workshop manual on CD in the glovebox :D I usually supply them with all the parts too...

Stuff like wipers and brake pads you can do yourself! Don't pay to get some overpriced garage to do it! The guides are all available. The fronts are a piece of piss and take about 10 minutes to change, most of which is jacking the car up and taking the wheels off.

Mint, seriously man, i've had my car for two and a half years now, and i've never been near a Nissan Garage, and dont plan to be near one.

There are plenty garages around, some Jap ones to, Japerformance in Ellon for example, i used them for the 1st service on my car, they changed every fluid, fitted my elbow and front pipe, made up a 3" section of pipe to make it fit (water cut!), supplied all the fluids etc etc. I had been there for a RR day before hand and got speaking to Simon, to be honest, a garage cant really go wrong servicing a car, its easy, you could do it :D

I have since done a service myself and will shortly be changing oil etc again, i've only had the car to the garage once, like Nicely says, if you search there are pictures and info on how to do almost anything to the car on the web. But then again, maybe your not into getting your hands dirty :p

Well no i didn't say i couldn't do it myself, Iv changed all my brakes on my VTi before, Lowered one of my old Civic's, Fitted exhausts to various cars, Christ iv pretty much done a B series timing belt! So im not useless when it comes to fixing the car myself, its just what they have told me needs changed, im going to make sure they DONT change the brakes as i knew they were shot but as i said im more than able to do it myself.

As for Japerformance i decided not to go there due to trying to get something sorted out last year with them and was pretty annoyed with them tbh, but i will be going there for a RR shortly with TAS to see how things are run.

I just wanted my JDM book stamped lol. Thanks for the info tho guys, and nicely.. it does have a Renault bit duck taped on the side :S... they dont know what window visors are >_<

but yeah im going to go call now...

Mint, don't get hung up on the JDM service book. Its worth diddly squat outside Japan. How do you know whether the entries are true? Whoever put it into auction could have filled all that in knowing full well that there would be no way to verify it when it went overseas...

What's important is that you have a record of it being serviced since it was imported. TBH, if it was me I would prefer NOT to see Nissan being involved in that servicing...
