Please recommend me something tried and tested as its a pretty awkward place on these cars.

Before anyone says it, I've already tried using my hands using rubber gloves for half an hour but didn't have any luck at all so gave up.

What does this proper tool look like?

I need one that will do the job as efficiently as possible within the lack of space available.

Yeah my mate used one of them James when I first tried to service my Nissan (bloody garage had the oil filter on too tight from last time grrrr)... but his tool was too big to grip the S15 filter properly. Kept slipping!!

So my advice would be to make sure the 3-prong tool is small enough as it seems the Nissan filter is smaller than other cars etc...

Yea think you can get them in different diameters. They are the best type hands down though. Should be getting a oil cooler and relocation kit soon anyways so wont have that hasstle any more.

I wouldn't say this is a proper tool, but if you jam a screw driver through it and use the handle to break it loose...that's the last resort tool for me.

Just don't do them up too tight and they come off easily enough by hand. ;) People always overtighten filters but there is no point.

I've never had to use a tool to get my filters off.

Tight + 1/4 turn is all I do to tighten them up.

When I have had issues in the past I've used a chain wrench.

SR20DET blueprint filter off eBay is all I use, £5 posted.

I had to do this on my wife's car...it wouldn't budge loose. That was the first and last oil change I did on that car. Sold it after owning it for 5 months. It was a 97 Honda Prelude SiR.
