Clutch noise and wheel wiggle

Two mechanical gripes for you to muse over :D

1: My clutch makes some funny whining noises, especially when starting from cold... It seems to be if I let the clutch out and back in again then it stops. Also more noticeable when selecting reverse.

Is this common? what is it and should I worry?

2: I'm getting a juddering through the steering wheel around the 70-80mph area. Is this likely to just be the tracking? and if so, can any tyre place sort tracking out on one of these or is a specialist required?

Answers on a postcard or alternatively, here on the forum! :p

Edit: After a quick run to the local tyre centre and 4 balanced wheels later - I no longer have wheel wiggle! So just the clutch noise to worry about now.

One of the front wheels was out by 60 on the balancing machine  hence the vibrations methinks! Feels much smoother now - aaaahhh!

whinning noise is likely to be release bearing, should be ok, but if he keeps making the noise once warmed up id say get it changed, which means droping the clutch out, so good excuse for a new uprated one

Hrmm digging this info up from the past..

Did you end up fixing this??

I think I know what you are talking about..I have the exact issue by your description..

Mine just makes the noise, not all the time..always from a cold start though..

if you push the clutch in..you can sometimes hear it just as you are slowly releasing the clutch (no matter what gear)..if you stop releasing 1/4 or half way and push it back in it will go away...

sounds like like the clutch release bearing.

Shouldn't worry about it, unless it gets real noise, like.... as if there's big play in it....

Yeh I agree. Don't worry about it. Hopefully (depending on how you look at it ) you'll need a clutch before it gets too bad so it can be changed then (as would normally be done).
