Tuning factory ECU

Sorry if this is in the wrong section but I was wondering if the factory ECU can be programmed/remapped without any interceptors or stuff. I know the Nissan ECU's are generally tamper proof but I'm pretty sure there was a bloke in Aus who had cracked the CA18 ECU. Just wondering if there was anyone who has cracked the SR20 one.

Cheers

Yes and no. Yes it can be remapped, but it requires a replacement chip. I don't know what's available over in Oz, but there's a guy in the SXOC who specialises in S14/S14a/S15 chips - either pre-mapped or he can do a custom mapping.

The biggest problem in the UK was the NATS2 alarm on the Euro S14a. The alarm and immobiliser are incorporated into the ECU and makes it NEARLY impossible to remap without immobilising theh engine. Jez worked it out though :D

Yes. There's a specialist in melbourne, australia who can tune the stock ecu. NIZPRO is the company's name.

You're missing the point. Programming the ECU direct is much more precise. A chip upgrade is also half the price.

You can't map it yourself though.

depending on what sort of chip u put
friend got his chip and dyno tuned cost him 980NZD

If I chip it for $980NZ then wouldn't I be better off saving another couple of hundred and get an Apexi PFC?

well, PFC+Controller was like 1500+ 2 years ago and with tuning almost 2000NZD\

now, PFC+Controller = 1100~1300AUD and you get it tuned probably cost you 500+ for a good tuner like Croydon

but the stock computer has EVERYTHING going into it. it takes into account everything and i think it's got a finer resolution.

So the ECU map is better than an aftermarket ECU (Apexi PFC)? Nicely, what do I need to do to get the map, do I need to send the ECU or can I just get the chip sent to me? What sort of difference does it make and does anyone have one?

S15R, what does the Nizpro tune give you and what mods do you need for it to be effective?

Cheers guys.

It would be quite difficult for you. Jez has yet to do an S15 map for a chip. Its not a problem to do it. Its just a case of getting a subject S15 with stage 1 or 2 mods and mapping it. Then he's got a template. Then you'd have to make sure you're running the same octane rated fuel...

However, getting a subject S15 to start with is a problem in the UK. Most people aren't bothered (though they should be) or go the Emanage or PFC route.

I can't guarantee that the chip could be manipulated as well is a PFC, as i don't know exactly what can be done with the chip.

You can either send an ECU to Jez or order a chip and install it yourself (instructions are on his site). This would be once he's got a map...

Maybe one of the UK people can be convinced to go and see him... :)

A lot of the S14/a owners on SXOC run a Horsham chip with good results. Basically, you will get a nice smooth and consistent power curve with the relevant stage mods. There are some dyno graphs on his site...

HKS Suction Filter
Boost controller @ 1.1Bar
Apexi GT Intercooler

I contacted Jez not long after i bought the car, as long as your spec matches his Stage 3 chip. i.e. Nismo 555's, Z32 afm etc he told me he is 99% sure it would be fine

But 555's are a waste, ay Nicely
