You have to take the console out so you can remove the cover, sound deadening, coverplate and then unbolt the gearstick mount, which is where you encounter the awkward bolts. Buy a ratcheting 12mm spanner and its easy from inside the car.

I've got all my photos on the memory stick ready to write up the 'how to' for this. I'll mention using the ratchetting spanner.

OK. I was thinking of the cover plate then.
Don't know what a ratcheting spanner is. But I may have one in the garage anyway

Will try this instead of messing about under the car

    Changed gearbox oil tonight.
I actually turned down partying for this Well that and money shortage

    Man, gearbox-oil smells really bad

Discovered a tiny leak from the oil filter relocation kit (1 drop/hour) so need to retighten one hose-clamp

With a ratchetted spanner, 3. The difficult part is getting the drain plug out. You need a breaker bar, no questions. You also need some long cable ties to secure all the gearshift boots back in place.

Same with the diff oil. That's just a pain having to do the 'hose fill'.

It was pretty easy after figuring out what tools to use. Didn't have a ratcheting spanner like the one in the links before but I managed to build a similar tool from the 150 piece Kamaza tool-set

Was going to do a how-to guide but forgot to take pics
I'll see if I feel up to dismantling the whole thing again for some pics.
