Aparently, the S15 gearbox is a "AZ6 Aisin"....

these are also fitted to the RX8 MX5 Altezza / IS200....

i'm assuming with just different bell housing's? Would be great to find out if this is true... cause it would certainly remove alot of people's worry about gearbox failure. RX8's are so common and written off just as much!

Spose the only way to find out for certain, unless someone's well connected... is to purchase an RX8 one and try bolting the S15 bell housing.

ratio's would need to be worked out...but certainly would be nice to know.

if i find one for a reasonable price, even if broken, i'll buy it, pull it apart and see...

Try here. Just some some digging and look what cropped up! (no mention of the s15)

The AZ6 is fitted to the SXE10, the S15, the RX8 and the MX5 Miata. I DON'T know any specifics about the output shaft..... I do have all the gear ratios available from Aisin Industries(manufacturer of AZ6), and the TRD ratios. Allegedely HKS also has gear sets available... at nearly $10k US!!!

S15 6 spd............ 3.626 2.200 1.541 1.213 1.000 0.767
RX8 6 spd............ 3.760 2.269 1.645 1.187 1.000 0.843
Miata 6-spd 99-05. 3.760 2.269 1.645 1.257 1.000 0.843
SXE10 6 sp.......... 3.874 2.175 1.484 1.223 1.000 0.869
TRD(33030-SE100) 3.106 2.175 1.585 1.223 1.000 0.869

Nismo 6spd box is ?1900 delivered for RHDjapan

from what i've read too, the box is split into 3 sections.... and the bell housing being the main difference.

it's the output shaft that we'd need to find out about.

i'd love to think, a mass produced box would have the same number of splines on the shaft, and the clutch is made to suit! lol

Dont bother with the nismo box. Couple of the guys have used it and it inherits the weakness in the 3rd/4th circlip.

Time to forget about this guys.... although they're the same model number box, the input shafts are different.

the mazda ones run 23 splies and the Altezza one runs 21... so they won't work. :(

Nismo box is a bit stronger but you still have to do a overhaul on it quite often.

Can always go with a Dog box too, =)

how many splines does the S15 box have? could you use the shaft from the s15 with the internals of the other box?

I find that first gear in the s15 is too short anyway, does any else think this?
