Hi all,

Someone I know is thinking of replacing a 6speed gearbox with a 5speed box out of a S14. I've been looking around but cant find any write ups etc.

I know the gear box part numbers are different, but i havent heard of anything that you have to do to make it fit. Do you need to change the clutch/flywheel for the new bell housing? Anyone know how its done?

I have not done the swap but know of many S15s have done so.

Yes, the clutch and flywheel is different as the S15 uses a dual mass fly wheel.....mechanically, perhaps the clutches can be swap for fitting but I'm not so certain about performance as S15s have dual mass flywheel to eliminate chattering noises from the resonances created by the 6-speed gearbox.

Other important consideration is to be sure that the length of both gearboxes do not differ so no modification to the driveshaft is necessary.

iirc you need:
- 5 speed box
- 5 speed clutch/flywheel
- shifter
- front half of prop shaft

bolt it all in and you're good to go :)

it's almost a standard mod in sunny WA ... to get rid of the 6 speed and put the 14 5 speed in - very common esp with high horsepower.

Which is odd, because 5MTs break just as easily as 6MTs running high power...

I believe that the clutch plate is the same. Just the plate though...
