turbo noise and exhaust leak.

noticed my turbo spool getting louder and exhaust sound too, so opened the bonnet to have closer look, while reving the engine can heard it leaking near elbow ,
but also noticed sounds comming out of the airfilter like rubbing or scratching noises... does this mean my turbo is on the way out...?

make sure your turbo elbow bolts haven't worked loose or fallen out :eek:

yeh maybe the turbo elbow bolts are lose as mine were like that nice wissing nosie

well i did leave one nut off when i fitted the greddy turbo elbow (about 6months ago). hope its not like Nicelys elbow with a big crack.

I get a lot of pops and backfires too (at low revs).

I've been told it's most likely a leak in the exhaust. Hopefully the Silent Hi-Power I get fitted next week will make it go away (assuming leak is from the cat-back section).

I'd agree with Nicely on this. Sounds like the manifold to turbo gasket is on its way out.

Tell us more about the HKS GT-RS!

How much boost can you run with these babies and what kinda BHP can you get the car up to assuming other mechanicals are upgraded to suit?

Does anyone know what the safe power limit is for the S15 considering things like clutch and engine internals are not upgraded?

well ive heard the GT-RS can handle up to 400ps think that about 380bhp...
but its got a BB centre and got crazy spool. think they can handle 1.4 bar...

reason i want to change my turbo cause ive the non bb turbo :annoyed:

oki guy i spoted the leak actually coming from my engine to mani gasket.... black marks on the engine where it has been leaking... wont even make full boost anymore until i floor it in 6th...:cry:

this means removing everything to change a gasket...

ive a crappy SS mani and was running fine for a 6months think the mani is warped causing leaks.. looks like i will be investing abit more money to sort out everything at once


or would you think if i loosing the bolts and then re-torque them work???

yeah i did replace the gasket, thats when i put the ss mani in..

think turbo starting to go hearing alot of scratch sound from airfilter getting louder too.

:cry::annoyed:dam the problem got so bad that i cant drive the car anymore. too much air getting in the o2 sensor now so it just running rich and no power what so ever can even drive more then 60 km about 45 mile :annoyed::cry::cry::cry:

this is the problem with cheap manifolds i had to have a xs power mani machined flat on both flanges and it was brand new .

were as i fitted a tomei mani about 2.5 yrs ago and it is still great but the xs power was ?100 and the tomei ?700 .

the safe limit i like to run SR's to is around 360 bhp with out rods and pistons etc etc .

but with a metal head gasket and head studs and cams .
a 2871r full exhaust, intake and intercooler injectors and a good ecu at 1.4 bar should easily make 350-360 bhp with the same spool up as stock

yeap thats the mani i have crappy xs power. and under use it would warp more.. so thats why ive just ordered a Tomei mani and HKS GT-RS hehehe
