Stock Wheel Weight

Hey,

I am really thinking about buying a set of 350z rims for my car.
They are 225 45 18" 8.0 +30 on the front and 245 45 18" 8.5 +33 on the rear.

I think I will probably need new tyres but not sure. Do you guys think they will fit a stock s15 without having to roll gaurds or stuff like that?

Also... I am concerned about adding extra unsprung mass. I have heard that the 350z rims are semi forged and should be pretty light... not anything spectacular but maybe the same or lighter than stock s15 rims.

So does anyone know how much a stock s15 rim/wheel weights... and even better how much a 350z rim/wheel weights?

The 350z rims are the ones that look like this.

I believe they'll fit, as they are the same size as the previous Rays versions. I'd be surprised if they weren't lighter, as the stock rims as quite heavy. You may need to get the rear arches rolled.

Aw man.. i dont want to roll arches... sounds damaging..... also.. if i go to 235 on the back and 215 on the front would i need rolling action?

Thanks again Nicely.... always the first to help out .

I will be checking the rims on Saturday and taking a bathroom scale with me to weigh them and mine :)

Most people have no trouble with the 350Z Rays on S14s. Its just it might be a bit close of the S15. Don't be afraid of an arch roll. It just teases the lip up slightly and gains you an extra 1cm or so clearance each side.

So are the 350 rims rays?

Didnt think they were.

Doesn't arch rolling crack paint at all?

I'd only have to roll the rears i think.

Rolling your arches could cause paint to crack only if you roll it cold. They normally heat the rolling area up with a heat gun to soften the paint so it wont crack. and it also depends on how much there rolled back.

advise would be to have it rolled on a nice hot day.. and also use a guy thats got experience in it.

The previous ones were lightweight Rays. Those are the facelift one you are looking at. Not sure if they are Rays or not, but they'll be the ones most 350Z owners will want on preference.

If the arch rolling is done properly, you shouldn't get cracking. They have to be properly heated and rolled slowly. A number of people have have them done on here without issue (including me) :)

also, would a different brand of tyre make a significant difference to the unsprung weight?

Here's some weight of rims with tyres on :

S15 stock wheels : 6.5JJ x 16 = 18.2kg (205/55-16)

Work Emotion : 6.5J x 16 = 16kg (205/45-16)

Buddy Club 8J X 17 = 17.3kg (225/45-17)

Buddy Club 9J x 17 = 18kg (235/45-17)

Seems like the stock wheels are heavy stuff. 72kg for all fours.

These figures cannot be correct for rims.

My 22"x 9.5" rims on my PNZ50 only weight 18kg each.

My 18" Volk Racing TE37s weight 7.3kg (front 7.5") and 7.7kg (rear 8.5").

Depends which 350Z alloys they are. The Rays are really light. The standard 18s weigh more than the space shuttle...
