Wondering if any sr20 wizards could help me out?

My car isn't starting, took it to a specialist garage to where it has been before and they found the compression was very low. On further inspection almost all the valves were bent! It used to cough and splutter on full throttle when it was hot, I'm wondering if this was the cause.

Anyway what could cause this to happen? All I did was remove the cam cover to get it painted.

Thanks in advance

Removing the rocker cover itself won't of effected anything unless you messed around with anything else. Could be that the timing has jumped a tooth or two if the chain was slack perhaps?

ive got a full set of valves and springs etc for sale if you need some.

I did have a look around when I removed the cover and everything looked okay, it's a mystery.

I might just buy them off you! I'll let you know after the head has been removed, hopefully it's not done to much damage

Because a technician told me haha.
It used to have compression of about 100 psi which is low isn't it? My car just goes wrong in ways no one can explain :(

100psi is low off the top of my head it should be between 120-150 and equal across all four cylinders. The engine I sold last year was just over 140psi on all four.

Update!
I'm having a new engine installed at slide motorsport.
It turns out my rocker cover was shot blasted even though I asked it to be dipped, oh well it was probably going to lose all compression at some point

Might be a dumb question but how does Shot Blasting a rocker cover ruin an engine ?
I'm guessing maybe the fine material used to shot blast the rocker could stay on the inside of the rocker cover calling into the head. Personally I didn't realise there was a problem doing it, but I'm glad I haven't now

Yeah that's exactly what happened :(. I have always had a feeling it wasn't the original engine or if it was, it had some serious hammer in its time
