Does anyone know a garage / workshop within the Berkshire Area (preferably near Reading or if needs be between Southampton & The Midlands) that can service the gearbox for an s15 or is a gearbox specialist anyway that your happy to recommend.

I've been getting a whining sound ever since i owned the car which i would presume is the input shaft bearing since it only happens when the clutch is engaged.

The box is also making another new whining sound when the box is cold and the clutch is pushed in for the first few minutes (maybe thrust bearing i think).

Anyway thanks to work I've put a years worth millage on a little too quick this year so originally i was gonna do this next year but im moving my timetable up. Might as well have these fixed and get the condition of the clutch in 1 go.

I was thinking if i need to change the clutch then i will replace it with an exedy Stage 1 (I believe this is pretty close to oem but a little better?)

(did just find this earlier thread as well, http://forum.s15oc.com/showthread.php?10330-Gearbox-whine)

I was talking to a friend the other week who mentioned he knew someone who knows his way around the 200sx etc. I'll have a word with him and see what he's like with the gearboxes.

My friend is from Staines so it shouldn't be TOO far from Reading :)

Afaik there's nothing specific or special about the s15 gearbox, it's a borg warner unit, more specifically belonging to the az6 family which is found in mazdas, is200's and s2000's. Any reputable gearbox mechanic would have no trouble working on it. You may want to order the parts you need first though as the lead time could leave you car-less for a while otherwise....

OK maybe specialist was a little strong of a word but i was hoping someone would have used a garage in the area and not be bent over the bonnet due to costs. I really don't what to hear a deep breath being taken like plumbers pricing a job when they drop the box off the car. as for time without the car im planning on getting a company car before this happens otherwise it could be a long walk home
