Hi silvia community.

So' as title states I am considering buying a rb26 silvia, I've never owned a rb or a skyline before, and this is pretty pricey. I dont really know if it is worth going ahead with it, so I was wondering if you can help me decide, i've already talked with Dean, He was very help, But he hasnt owned a skyline before either, So I'm going to ask someone who has :)

Link to the car - http://www.fast4s.co.nz/detail.php?refno=11894
They told me the original owner ( Import company ) Had spent over 80,000 New zealand dollars on it. Thats around, 37,549.60 GBP mark.

I've been to see it a few times, the interior is in pretty bad condition.

I've bartered them down to $30,000 New zealand dollars.
Thats somewhere around the 14,077.33 GBP Mark.

Tell me how you'd go about it , cheers

If it's going to be a weekend car / track car; you have the money to buy it outright (no loans); have an insurer who will cover you; and intend to keep the car for a reasonable period of time (ie +2 years); then if you like it - go for it.

The most important thing in addition to all the common sense stuff is to get a thorough pre purchase inspection done by someone who knows GTR engines and performance cars / parts. This really needs to be done by a specialist as the typical AA check staff won't know what to look out for; and what problems often arise with GTR engines.

I'd also consider running the car on a dyno prior to purchase to ensure the tune is good. If the tune is bad or not safe; it may highlight some expensive bills to come before they become your bills.

Finally, seeing as you're buying this through a dealer, make sure you get the best mechanical warranty available from a reputable mechanical insurance company. Make sure the insurer is aware of all the modifications - and get it in writing. That way if the car goes bang; you're covered.

Cheers man, you've been really helpful. appreciate it.
ay what do you have against loans? haha.
Well there is a insurance company who apparently are great for moded cars called nac, i think. Alot of my friends have gone to them.
You think dealers are that shady? thought they did all that before they took them to be honest, guess its better to be on the safer side though eh.

Yeah, i'm deff going to be buying it for a weekend car, i just straight up cant afford the gas for a daily driver to be honest haha. rb=EXPENSIVE!

I dont know if theres something wrong with the forum or something but it says you're from auckland? cant be truth :p if it is, got any recommendations where to get it inspected?

went to see the car again today, the dealership said they wouldnt have a problem letting me take it to an inspection and a dyno test already.

also said that the rb weight wont have much of a reply on drifting the actual car and that its just silly to think it would, haha, which i kinda agree with.

its not the drifting of the car thats affected, its the positioning of the engine over the front subframe and the weight of the block and the impact it would have on actual handling in general. drifters dont seem to car much for balance as what matters most is the ability to pull itself around with masses of power......fact is fitting a heavier engine will never improve handling.

i've seen examples of skylines in the past that have swapped out thier rb25 engine for sr20's in the quest for ultimate balance and handling which seems odd but makes a lot of sense....

You're welcome :).

I'm not a fan of car loans or any consumer loans for that matter. Just be aware of the true cost of whatever you buy. This includes cost of finance.

NAC will do it, but it won't be cheap. Get quotes first - no point buying a car you can't get insured or afford to insure.

The dealer may have serviced the car; but I'd personally do it again with good fluids for piece of mind.

ST Hitec in Mt Wellington services a lot of GTR's and s15's; they have a dyno too. They are considered not the cheapest / but the best. They may even know of the car; or have worked on it. At the end of the day, make sure you’re happy with the car.

dont do it, buy a standard one and enjoy it, then mod it in time. this thing will likely be off the road more than on and will definitely be a never ending money pit.....

If you are worried about buying it, don't. There are a number of S15's around and you can always find a nice one.

RB26 engines are MONEY PITS! Are you prepared for rebuilds? Can you do this by yourself? Do you have the added income for parts? At your age I wouldn't recommend it at all! And once the engine is down and out, and you're still paying the monthly on a car that doesn't run....You'll be kicking yourself.

All this is coming from a BIG Skyline fan who's still toying with the idea of buying one...That being said, I'm prepared to deal with it being down and out for months on end for rebuilds...

Looks quite a nice spec, if it is what it says!
Doesn't sound the right sort of thing for you tho, if it's the sort of thing that your going to buy on finance.
Also wouldn't like to imagine what the insurance costs would be at your age!
Good luck either way.
