Does anyone know 100% what turbos come on the S15 as standard?

I was always under the impression that they're the same turbo as the S14 but rollerbearing. As far as I know, this equates to it being a GT2860R.

Recently I've heard people saying its actually a T25 that the S15 comes with, ie a GT2560R.

I'm going to get my car up on stands and compare it to my S14A Silvia turbo, but was wondering if anyone can confirm on here?

Have you checked the useful threads section? Theres a few threads on there about which turbos came on which S15's. I think 3 variants were used over the total production run IIRC.

I hadn't checked the useful threads, but I have now and I just ended up more confused! :wack:

Thanks guys, I wasn't looking forward to swapping a T28 onto the 15 really! I know its straightforward, but I'm pretty lazy atm! :D

your all wrong. I get asked this question myself all the time lol

it actually has a T25 trim believe it or not ;) there were 2 variants fitted to the Silvia range (but Silvia includes the S13, S14 & S15, not just the S15 alone)

ball bearing and non ball bearing.. but both had minimal noticeable effects on performance at the time when Nissan brought them out

Turbine - 53mm T25, 0.64 A/R, 62 trim 38.5mm outlet, Inconel wheel
Compressor - 60mm Exd, 46.5mm Ind T3, 0.60 A/R, 60 trim

........or as Mr Garret quotes... a GT2560R ;) max power 320-330hp with supporting modifications

hope that helps to answer some of your questions...

I generally refer to the S15 Turbo as a GT2560R as its pretty much the same turbo....

If was a GT2860R (or T28 Roller Bearing as some call it) then every factory S15 that I tune would be seeing around 340-360hp ;) but none do

UNLESS you run SILLY boost levels on the GT2560R which ive done in testing on a local chaps S15 and It was tuned it to 337hp and 376ft Ibs at 1.5bar dropping to 1.2. However when road testing you can simply feel the compressor surge as the turbine is simply operating out of its efficiency range and EGT would simply go up massively as the exhaust housing cannot flow the gas well at all.. .This was done for testing purposes ONLY and the max booost suitable for this turbo given its rate of gas flow is 1.25bar TOPS

Also any more boost than this and the turbo wont last too long....

Wouldnt it be nice if Nissan fitted 740ccs Z32 MAFs and GT2860R's mmmmm

then no one would probably bother buying Z33's

350hp tuned outta the box :) on factory ECU too

How well do the GT28RS turbo's flow? Do they do a much better job of holding the boost at higher RPM's or would you just go for the GT2871R??

yes.. they flow very well and hold booost better.. you can run around 1.5bar on them EASY (with fuel modifcations done to suit of course)

Me personally.. Im more track, fast road.. top end.. Id go 2871 with 86 housing or GT30.. ;) Just use your gearbox.. as I say ;)

if you want to see what a 2871 will do.. run to 1.8bar (at chaps request - track car) then click on the 5th vid down and see for yourself... http://fctuning.com/fctwp/ S15 Pt II

dont get me wrong the 2871 is a nice turbo.. though I think the Borg Warner 256 is better and has better flow for top end performance..

Well I'll be damned...!!! :wack:

Can't slap Steve as he mapped my car and should have put a disclaimer to say the ONLY person who can claim it's a T25 without getting a shifty left palm is Steve haha :p

Hmmm from my years of understanding, the turbo's fitted to the Red top was a T25 and to the black top (NVCT) was the T28.
They both had the T25 turbine and trim but the T28 had the slightly bigger compressor housing
(obviously to cope with the VV timming)

Now the GT2860R or RS is a different turbo to the T28 and is slightly bigger again
