It's a strange thing. The japanese price has dropped quite a bit (used cars in generall. Not just S15s). But the yen rate makes up for it. Just looked at prices in Japan and good Spec-Rs fetch about the same money after currency conversion as it did several years ago.

I bought mine from the auction back in 2005 for 1.85 miljon JPY. The same amount of swedish currency would today get me a S15 for about 1.4 miljon JPY which is pretty much what you should expect to pay for a high grade, low mileage Spec-R nowadays in Japan from what I can gather.

So if anyone considers buying a fresh import S15 for cheap money. Look over it very carefully. Could be a bargain, but as alot of cars are imported for profit chances are it's a accident repair with shady history.
Edit: But there is alot of bargains to be had now because of the current economical climate. Just check the car carefully before buying :)

Very true Yakozan but there's a large stock of S15's already in Ireland and the value is being brought down by import companies going bust & some owners being forced into selling them cheap to get a quick sale because of financial difficulties :(

Me neither, it is crap though as the money I spent on my Spec S less than twelve months ago would get me a fairly clean spec R now :annoyed:

of course, loads of dodgy traders out there .... got into loads of trouble for posting on for sale threads so dont bother any more drawing hassel.

i just dont understand why they hide stuff because any fella that knows his way around a car will spot them and the sale is lost straight away due to dishonesty.

No offence, but there are some truly s h i t e examples in Ireland. That can't be helping prices. The standard is generally higher in the UK due to ESVA testing, but the prices are still pretty bad compared to a year ago. The main problems are that they are still specialist cars and imports. The market is MUCH smaller than for other performance car. Couple that with the current economic situation and you have a very limited and slow market. This in turn makes people desperate to sell because that can't wait it out; so they drop prices. The import market is a bit different. People buying an S15 from an importer generally know what they want. The importer is also still having to pay top dollar (or Yen) for the cars, hence the higher price. Of course, they too are finding it difficult to shift them...

no1 is denying that nicely , a grade r would have saved me around 4 grand when i imported, but i couldnt risk it at the time, played it safe for a straight low milager.

on the other hand , thank god its not as strict over here as in the UK, we can import very highly modded imports with no hassels at all.

I used to be quite against the ESVA...but now im glad we have it as i think it stops the market being saturated with **** examples of newer cars, look whats happened to pre 98 model Jap sportscars...Supras, RX7's, FTO's etc etc. I just hope they scrap the 10 year rolling rule so that we dont get an influx of worthless S15's driving prices down of decent examples even more.

Also makes the cars a rarer sight on the road and less chance to be in the hands of wankers that diminish the image of the vehicle.

I don't agree because our Nct is more strict than ur mot. Glad I got rid of mine in sep when they were worth 17k which is near what I got

I said ESVA test, not MoT. It has to have an MoT test AFTER it gets through ESVA. ESVA is the test which costs us £1000-2000 depending on the car.

once prices have dropped, they'll never raise again.... people will just think "6 months ago they were only £xxxx. I'm not paying £1000 more for it now"

ESVA is a test to make sure the car complies to the model report. The model report is take from a standard spec car.... said car must then comform to all details of said model report! Very strict.... hence why people have to source all standard parts to pass one!
