What does a VIN and chassis no read like?

Hey guys

Looking at buying an S15 - wanted to know of an example Engine number and chassis number so I know what they should read like. Currently only going off what sellers are telling me over the phone!

There is no VIN as you know it in the UK on JDM cars. The chassis number is in the format S15-xxxxxx and is on the chassis plate on the firewall to the the left of the brake booster and is also stamped on the firewall itself behind the BMC. The engine number is very difficult to see and is down near the turbo elbow in the format SR20-xxxxxx.

Yep, I believe you have your own VIN numbers specific to Oz, just like we have a 17 character system in Europe.

There is no accessible record of engine manufacture date, nor in which car they were fitted originally.
