read a thread about glass headlights and started to wonder where they come from.

They look to good to be aftermarket items so I strongly suspect they are OEM.

I've done some digging in the past but only been able to exclude theories.

Spoke to Rick at Endless-R in Japan about the silver optional headlights they had on a demo S15. they where plastic.

My HID ones are plastic.

regular ones are plastic.

How about ADM and NZDM spec S15s?
Are they glass or plastic?

Anyone with a late (01-02) JDM, ADM or NZDM S15?
Are they glass or plastic?

ADM headlight assembly = polycarbonates... hence why they go yellow if you overdo the bulbs!

I've only seen the ADM's or the two types of JDM (black or silver) but all in poly. Glass would be interesting but risky - well where I've driven anyhow.

JackaL reckons that the bodyshop which did his Strawberry conversion got them through Nissan GB...

Think you need to speak to a Jap parts supplier...

Sounds like they change the plastic for glass on the late JDMs or something.

I can't afford to buy new headlights.
Just curious and good to know info :)

Just spoke to Harald200.
He's got a 2002 S15 Spec-R and his headlights are plastic

Running out of ideas now. Autech version headlights perhaps?

Speaking to JackaL again, he's a bit unsure whether they are glass now after all. He was going to check for me this weekend. Advised that its quite easy to tell if you tap the fronts.

I've seen the black-backed polycarbonate ones on NZDM S15s .. but I haven't seen them cloud or turn yellow like the JDM ones. Mine are silver-backed - until I saw a new club member from SNZ last week I didn't even realise there were two versions. The black-backed ones are very striking!

My car started life as a NZDM, headlights are plastic.

I'm keen to get glass ones, too if they're available.

Yes there are glass versions

They come from the autech s15 supposedly which had silver background instead of the normal black background which we have.

Very rare, I've only seen one set on sale in ns.com for so many years.

as 200sxy said. The silver headlights I've come across are poly.
Endless-R in Japan confirmed that their silver headlights are polycarbonite.

but maybe the silver headlights was an option on regular S15s too.
But on the Autech all headlights are glass?

Anyone here with an Autech?

Edit: PMed "Autech_NZ" the question about the headlights :)
So hopefully I'll get an answer about the Autech version headlights.

I have the JDM HID blackhousing and they are plastic, I don't think any are glass. Maybe someone made a personal mold or something, the glass would be nice rather than polishing them everytime you wash the car. I am thinking of getting the protective film for them hopefully it does not turn then.

I don't think protective film would help.
The damage comes from UV-rays which almost all light emmits.
The only thing I can think of which doesn't emmit UV-rays are LED-lights... I think.

The NZDM black is much much much blacker than the JDM black - which seems slightly metallic. I'll try to take a better look at them next time I see them, to determine if they're glass. (They were much shinier than mine.)
