I have just had my ADM S15 stolen from a public carpark; but am still rather fond of S15s and am considering another one.

What are the pros and cons are of the JDM vs ADM S15?

Also, is it simple to derestrict the speed limiter on the JDM cars and/or switch to the ADM cluster?
Do the '99 JDM cars differ significantly from later models apart from the BB turbocharger?

For any sydneysiders, the car was stolen from Harbourside Parking while I was at work.
I have since discovered thefts are quite common there and the car was immobilised, secured etc.

Does anyone have experience with Quick Track alarms and are they a worthwhile expense?

Thanks and if anyone notices a pewter stock looking ADM S15 with a lowered drivers seat (grey and black leather interior)...
please let me know...

Shame to hear about you car. I hate it when people want you car more than you do.

Any parking garage is a target. unfortunately that is just the way it is.

Quick trak are good, but they are expensive. I believe you have to pay a yearly monitoring fee as well. It still doesn't stop your car from being stolen but they might be able to find it before it is in pieces.

I'll keep my eye out for the car, but it is probably already been stripped.

If they want to steal your car, it WILL get stolen. No matter what. Quicktrak are known to not work underground (underground carpark, tunnel) and inside a truck. If they load your car into a container or truck, then it's game over even with Quicktrak.

Not sure if you can simply plug the audm cluster into the jdm but I believe they are the same.

If you like the little details of the jdm, get a jdm no questions asked. I went for jdm because I prefer a digital climate control.

thanks guys - not that it seems to make a lot of difference, but what security measures have you taken with your cars?

also, how do you know if a car has HICAS? is it worth keeping? and if not, is it simple to remove/cancel out?

Is derestricting the top speed a simple operation with the ecu or something more complex?

Also, will the A-pillar boost guage get you in trouble with the boys in blue?

The chassis number will tell if you have HICAS or not but your will need to use Nissan's FAST system to tell.

HICAS is something worth avoiding imo as it adds extra weight and is another potential mechanical headache. However i havent driven an S15 with one so cant give an honest opinion if its any good or not.

Delimiting the top speed can normally be done with a ?50 delimiter chip or ECU remap with most Jap cars, cant say for sure on an S15 but im sure someone else will know ?

jez is rite about delimiting the car & I can't say I've ever heard a good word about the HICAS system but again I've not experienced it myself. It is possible to disable it tho if your car has it. As for the boost gauge, I don't know the laws over in Oz but I can't see it being a problem as it is a standard factory fitted gauge. Does the AUS S15 spec R not have it??? even the JAP spec S has an A pillar gauge for oil IIRC, Nicely may know a bit more about the law over there.

Sorry about the car tho

ADM's do not have the pillar gauge. As far as getting in trouble for it, I haven't heard of anyone getting done for it. If it gets complied with it, it should be fine.

Eh..are you saying yours might be an ADM model ? I think its about a million times more likely that the previous owner just removed it, personal preference or something ?

You havent been eating the yellow snow have you Mint ?..lol :)

If you have an ADM it would be on the build plate. More than likely what JEZ said, the previous owner probably removed it.

The pod on the A pillar was removed on the ADM cars to meet ADR (Australian Design Rules) as it was thought to be an obstruction in an accident - but if they are complied with it, as meddler said, it should be fine.

In my search for a replacement, I have narrowed it to two cars:
1. a stock JDM with 50k kms and HICAS that has just been imported
2. a modified JDM that has been in Sydney for 6 years with 67k kms and without HICAS (frontmount, full 3" exhaust, fuel pump, apexi computer with controller, Cusco springs and shocks with height and camber adjustable settings)

Both are clean, but unfortunately car 2 will need to be raised to clear my driveway.

Does anyone know of any good suspension specialists in sydney?

Stay away from HICAS. No seriously. There's VERY little s15 with hicas because they are that bad. Those who got it must have randomly tick the option box

I've heard of HICAS being useful on a heavier car than a Sil, basically giving you just a little more turn on a fast corner.. but there's an S14 owner I've met who has it in his and he feels that it makes the car feel less stable at speed. You can get a HICAS lock bar easily enough from memory..

Yeah they are pretty good. They know their stuff. They may be a little more expensive, but you get what you pay for.
