Is HID illegal in your country?
Well, I have changed to HID and the mechanic said it's illegal because the light does not splash??
Since S15 has a projector type headlight, I don't know what he meant. I'm sure even with stock lights it won't splash because it's projector and it lights straight.
Then what is the difference between Nismo HID kit and normal kit? Do they come with housings?

In Sweden i it's illegal if it doesn't have automatic height adjustment.
That makes every aftermarket HID kit illegal and some stock HID to (like the S15 for example).

The cops doesn't check this but at the yearly MOT they can defect you.
That's why I have a ready custom made halogen lights kit at the garage.

Easy to install. Just figure out what cables to connect to and bypass the HID converter so It won't blow your halogen lights.

That's Swedish laws. Don't know about the other countries.

For the UK:

There is a lot of misinformation regarding the legality of HID systems fitted to cars without headlamp power wash and rear axle self levelling ...these are only an E.U. legal requirement on Xenon systems fitted to NEW cars AT THE FACTORY PRODUCTION STAGE .

HID systems fitted as aftermarket accessory DO NOT REQUIRE the car to have power wash or self levelling ; even the Dept. of Transport get this wrong sometimes.
These kit do, however, have to conform to normal lighting regulations, i.e. pattern dispersal.

Problems may occur at the ESVA test...

ok, Factory HID has different lens therefore if you install an aftermarket HID kit on S15 due to the diff length of bulb it doesnt really light up probably i mean some corner theres no light :p say you bought a higher 6000K and stronger ballast than factory it still wont be as good as Factory HID

btw is there a NISMO HID KIT?

btw aftermarket HID kits are illegal in Australia but unlikey to get defected but if you drive like a dickhead than you are likely to get defected

I havn't seen one or ever heard of one :(
Would be a good thing to have so I could stop worrying when MOT times comes.

But here in Sweden you just get defected, go home, change the lights, book new time, and then you're done. costs about ?10 for an extra after-MOT :)
Some people get the lights through though. But many get defected.?

I will change to halogen lights each year as I don't want to attract attention on my non e-marked lights.
They shoould be allrigths as theywas registered with them. But you never know.

let me know if anybody finds som auto-leveling device

I have just found out the law.
If I change the bulb to aftermarket HID then my headlamp cannot make pattern therefore I will need to change the headlamp, housings or whatever that can make pattern.
So I guess I have to hunt for a lens but is there such a thing for an s15?
I'm sure some S15 comes with factory HID. what do they have for lens? same?
I can't be bothered chasing the web site for a nismo one but there is a guy who has it.

It'll be the entire headlight units if there's a difference.

If Yako checks the part number of his headlights (JDM HIDs) in FAST (using the chassis number), I can check mine (standard) and find if there's any difference.
