It has recently been noticed that if someone chooses a remotely hosted avatar, the forum software does not apply dimension and file size restrictions as it does with uploaded avatars. For this reason, remote avatars have now been disabled.

You can still have an avatar, but you will need to upload it via your profile :) Restrictions are 80x80 pixels and 10k.

Its a fairly standard size. Same size as my avatar :) This is just avatars, not signatures. Ideally signature images should be around 500x100 pixels and 40k max.

you can apply a mod to the forum, which will check the size of remotely hosted avatars, and if it is larger than the board settings, it will resize it... i had this issue on my phpbb forum and thats how i resolved it

I'll have a look for it, thanks Dale. I'm sort of loathed to add mods as they often have to be reapplied when upgrading. When the forum software is changed, this won't be an issue.
