WTB: S15 6 Speed Gearbox
As title states, I’m looking for a good working gearbox for my car. Factory 6 speed, with no crunching or whining. Anyone got one laying around?

I second Garage D, they often had stuff when I was desperate.
But I’d say try get something from a member first if possible or even online, Garage D often charge a premium

There’s a few on eBay, but they’re pushing £800-£1000+. I understand that’s probably the going rate for them atm, but I don’t want to spend too much on a used gearbox only to have it fail like my current box has done. I’ll get in touch with garage D next week about it, but the problem I have is they are 200 miles away from me.

Think they quoted me for a replacement box a bit less then your ebay prices this was a year ago or so (did have to get them my box as a trade in though was broken so no point in keeping it :P). to be honest i looked for different options as well but you will end up spending more by doing a different box (cd009 or rb25 box etc.) they shipped me the box to the netherlands no problem.

I have looked into s14/rb boxes and cd009s but the it’s a bit of task and cost is too much. I could do it no problem but I’m restoring a r32 at present, so I rather put more time and effort into that project than my 15 atm. Hence why I want a quick-ish fix so I can get the s15 sold, due to me falling down the rabbit hole with the 32.
GTR shop are doing a similar deal for my gtr box, swap for a refurbed unit. I’ll more than likely get in touch with Garage D next week. I did hand the s15 box into a local ‘gearbox specialist’ who said they would do it for me, but after 6 weeks of them saying ‘we haven’t looked at it’, I’ve got a bit impatient with them.

I would recommend firstly opening the box up and checking it out, maybe it could be bearings or rings needing replacement if the gears are in good condition theirs no need to buy a new one.
I had certain problems with my gearbox not to long ago, it was doing very bad whining noises and crunches on 3rd and disgusting other sounds when in any gear and off the gass pedal, opened it up and it looked mint, found out one of the bearings where gone and the snap ring needed replacing, put it all together and it sorted out everything, whining noises still continued then I found out it was coming from the propshaft because the diff I have battered the shaft joints. That's my recommendation.
